RESCUE OF INJURED, DISTRESSED OR ORPHANED WILDLIFE

Phone: 083 607 4498      E-mail: info@wildliferescuesa.org

Wildlife Rescue is a registered Non-profit Company dedicated to helping injured or distressed wildlife in the residential areas and estates of Ballito and surrounding areas. As permitted first responders, we work in collaboration with various wildlife organisations and vets to ensure as many species as possible receive expert care.

We do not charge for callouts but rely solely on donations and fundraising. Every donation makes a difference.

What TO do in an emergency

Points to consider when reporting an injured/stressed animal:

1. Confirm EXACT address where the animal was originally found and pin drop

A pin drop will ensure that the rescuer can get to the animal without delay.

Furthermore, infants and juvenile animals could possibly be reunited with their parents only if we know the exact location where the animal was found.

Wild animals are often very territorial, and it is therefore important that when they are ready to be released back into the wild, it is done in their own territory to ensure the best chance of survival.

2. Video of movement and description of injury

This helps rescuers assess the severity of the injury.

In many cases, leaving the animal in its natural environment to heal, unless its injury is severe or life-threatening, is often the best course of action.

If you are unsure if an animal needs rescue assistance, particularly baby birds, please call for advice.

3. Code for estate if necessary

4. Put dogs away if needs be

It is important to keep people and pets away to minimise stress to the animal while waiting for a rescuer to arrive.

5. ALWAYS make sure someone is keeping eyes on it

Wild animals, when injured, instinctively hide to conserve energy and protect themselves. This complicates rescue efforts, as the animal may not be found without knowing the exact location where it sought shelter.
